Two-thirds of registered voters in Western New York believe all gambling facilities in the region should be taxed at the same rate, according to a poll commissioned by Batavia Downs Gaming.
Batavia Downs has been trying to drum up political support for a tax cut. The state taxes profits at Batavia Downs at 65 percent, compared with 59 percent at Hamburg Gaming at Buffalo Raceway.
Batavia Downs commissioned the poll from Remington Research Group of Kansas City, Mo.
On Friday and Saturday the firm surveyed 2,133 voters in the 15 counties served by Western Regional Off-Track Betting, which owns Batavia Downs. The poll, with a margin of error of 2 percent, showed 69 percent of respondents favored the same tax rate.
Batavia Downs' after-tax profits are distributed among the 15 counties and the cities of Buffalo and Rochester.
