WKBW-TV co-anchor Ashley Rowe announced during a newscast Monday that she is engaged to be married.
When it comes to such personal things, my general rule is to report them only if the subjects verify them and if it may have relevance to their future in the job.
Rowe's engagement to Dan Greene, the Buffalo-born director of operations at 43North, qualifies on both counts.
When the then Toronto-based Rowe joined Channel 7 almost two years ago, there was the belief she might be here only a few years before possibly going to a larger market.

The engagement appears to change that thinking as Rowe is about to enter the third and final year of her Channel 7 contract.
Rowe and co-anchor Jeff Russo haven't moved the ratings much in the two years they've teamed but that was to be expected; the Buffalo TV market is very slow to change and usually appreciates stability in its anchor teams.
In the recent November sweeps, Channel 7 remained deep in third place but it did show some gains at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. from a year ago.
In a text exchange, Rowe said she and Greene met through a mutual friend at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and they've been together for more than a year. He worked in Chicago, New York City and Miami before moving back to his hometown.
