BERRY, Laura Warn, Col.

BERRY - Laura Warn, Col. Retired from USAF, died peacefully in her home in Virginia Beach, VA, in late October, surrounded by friends and family, after a long and brave battle with cancer. A graduate of Boston University, she was the granddaughter of the late Harold and Sonya Burkett of Buffalo and the late Dr. Raymond L. Warn and Hermione Wilcox Warn of Oakfield, NY. She is survived by her parents, Peter and Manya Warn of Williamsville, NY, brothers, nephews and cousins. Laura was an Air Force intelligence officer whose assignments began in a tent city in Saudi Arabia and ended in an international compound in Kabul, Afghanistan. She loved her work and approached life with a gritty, good humored idealism that reflected well upon the country she served. Laura enjoyed the Finger Lakes and brought Air Force friends to participate in the Musselman Triathlon. She often walked Swallow Hollow Trail and supported the Friends of the Iroquois National Wildlife Preserve. Her surviving friends are too numerous to list. We thank all for the respect, admiration and love shown her throughout her struggle. Those offerings touched Laura's heart and lessened her pain. She takes them with her forever. Special thanks to the nurses of Heartland Hospice whose professionalism and genuine concern helped so much. Dr. Aaron Flanders and the oncology staff of the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth provided a level of human caring and technical expertise that gave Laura the best medical care available today. Laura's legacy will endure far beyond the lives of those of us who survive her. Her participation in clinical trials at the National Institute of Health will someday help women and men yet unborn. Burial was private.
