Arrest made in theft of donated toys from East Side church

Buffalo police have arrested a 37-year-old East Side man in the theft of two boxes of donated toys from St. Lawrence Church that were intended as Christmas presents for children of refugees.

Police say they identified Cecil Hollingsworth as the suspect in the case and he was located by Officer Timothy Perrott on Sunday in front of 1960 Genesee St.

Hollingsworth, who lives on Domedion Avenue less than one mile from the church on East Delavan Avenue, is accused of entering the church sometime around 7:30 a.m. Thursday through doors that were unlocked in advance of that morning's prayers and Mass.

Hollingsworth took two boxes of toys. The suspect is charged with burglary, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Police say they don't believe the toys were recovered at this time.
