The head of the United Auto Workers' Amherst-based Region 9 is on track to becoming one of the union's top leaders.
Terry Dittes, who has served as Region 9 director since 2014, was nominated by a UAW caucus to become one of its three vice presidents, according to published reports. He is part of a slate of officers who still need to be elected at the UAW's constitutional convention in June. Gary Jones, who heads a regional office based in Missouri, was nominated as the Detroit-based UAW's next president, with Dennis Williams retiring.
Dittes lives in the Philadelphia area. The region he oversees covers Western and Central New York, New Jersey, and most of Pennsylvania. Locally, the UAW represents workers at sites including plants run by General Motors and Ford Motor Co.
