Regional United Auto Workers leader rising to national role

The head of the United Auto Workers' Amherst-based Region 9 is on track to becoming one of the union's top leaders.

Terry Dittes, who has served as Region 9 director since 2014, was nominated by a UAW caucus to become one of its three vice presidents, according to published reports. He is part of a slate of officers who still need to be elected at the UAW's constitutional convention in June. Gary Jones, who heads a regional office based in Missouri, was nominated as the Detroit-based UAW's next president, with Dennis Williams retiring.
