You’ve heard it your whole life: "It’s the thought that counts." That’s why a gift card or another boring tie just doesn’t cut it in the gift department. Of course, finding the perfect gift is easier said than done, so we’re here to help. From booze and food to jewelry and cool stuff for kids, we’ve got you covered. Even better, almost everything on our list is available locally, so you can feel extra good about your holiday shopping this year.
Overnight stay and dinner ($235-$425 per night)
Hotel Henry: 444 Forest Ave, Buffalo
Spend the night at one of Buffalo’s buzziest new hotels and enjoy a staycation for two. The "Explore" package ranges from $235-$425 per night depending on the room type and demand during the holiday season. Not only can you finally experience the Hotel Henry, but you will also receive $75 in culinary credits to 100 Acres, the hotel’s restaurant.
Float session ($55, 60 minutes; $70, 90 minutes)
The Flo: 228 Allen St, Buffalo; 770-1000
Sensory deprivation float sessions are the newest way in WNY to relax and meditate. After check-in, you’re guided to a private room where you shower, put in ear plugs, and leave your clothes behind before entering the private, pitch-black flotation room. The saltwater tub is shallow, so once you adjust into a float position, you can relax in the 96 degree water — no sound, no light and no distractions. Tanks are kept clean via a filtration system, UV filter and Ozone generator.
Private snow sport lesson ($130, one-hour beginner ski or snowboard)
Holiday Valley Resort: 6557 Holiday Valley Road, Ellicottville
Make the most of WNY winter by spending time outdoors. Never learned to ski or snowboard? Take a private lesson with an expert instructor at Holiday Valley. Group lessons are also available; see website for details. After you master your new hobby, cozy up in the lodge with a cup of cocoa or a hot toddy.
