A 68-year-old hunter was found dead Wednesday beneath a tree stand in Royalton, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's office.
An initial investigation indicated that the man suffered from a medical emergency while in the tree stand before he fell to the ground.
Emergency responders found the 68-year-old man lying unresponsive at the base of a tree in the woods behind 4562 Royalton Center Road.
Attempts at giving the man life-saving treatment were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff's office.
After receiving a 911 call about 9:20 a.m., emergency units from the Sheriff's office, Gasport Chemical Hose Volunteer Fire Company, Terry's Corners Volunteer Fire Co., Mercy Flight and New York State Police responded to the scene.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Bureau is continuing to investigate the incident. Authorities withheld the name of the victim Wednesday pending notification to his family.
