Jay H. Myers, who was living in North Tonawanda when he molested an 8-year-old girl from January to March 2012, was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in state prison.
Myers, 56, now of Syracuse, had pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse. State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. imposed the maximum sentence and added 15 years of post-release supervision.
The victim, now 13, told Kloch that she spent nine days in a psychiatric hospital last month after attempting suicide. At a May 23 court appearance, prosecutor Robert A. Zucco said Myers stole $7,000 from the victim's mother.
Myers' record includes 2004 convictions for forgery and grand larceny in Ontario County, for which he served a year in jail. He said he faced sentencing "with a heavy and remorseful heart."
