AG review delays temple's sale to Northtown Automotive

Northtown Automotive's plan to buy 10 acres of land in Amherst from Temple Beth Tzedek is in limbo, awaiting legal review.

The temple has merged with B'nai Shalom on North Forest Road and is selling its longtime home at Getzville Road and Sheridan Drive.

Northtown Automotive plans to build 468 parking spaces at the 621 Getzville site, leasing 300 of them to Dent Neurologic Group.

Amherst town officials by June had signed off on the project and the Army Corps of Engineers granted preliminary approval, which was required because wetlands are there, said Northtown co-owner Larry Schreiber. But the attorney general must review any sale of a building used by a religious institution, and that hasn't happened, Schreiber said.

So Northtown can't close on the sale, he said. Northtown hopes to begin site work this winter.
