GETTING CREATIVE – Artist Andrea Oswald will lead a session entitled “Wine, Women & Art” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca. TAKE ONE – The Carnegie Art Center, 240 Goundry St., will hold its annual “Art Off The Wall” exhibition and fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $10 and includes a beverage and a chance to purchase one of more than 350 works donated by local artists for $20.
Any pieces still on the wall will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday when the Carnegie takes part in the North Tonawanda WinterWalk. FOR THE KIDS – Local author Dan Bentivogli will read from his young peoples’ science adventure, “The Adventures of Sticky McGooey and Friends – Vexed with an X” at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Lackawanna Public Library, 560 Ridge Road, Lackawanna.

Sister Mary Johnice Rzadkiewicz

DRY IDEA – Two years ago Sister Mary Johnice Rzadkiewicz held a collection drive for diapers at Christmas that brought in more than 20,000 diapers for mothers in need. Last year, the Christmas “Pillows for Their Head” drive collected more than 1,000 pillows and pillow cases that were given away at a Christmas Eve dinner at the Response to Love Center on Buffalo’s East Side.
This year sees a “Wrapped in Towels of Love” campaign, which hopes to provide a bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth to those who need them. It begins with a fundraiser and towel drive from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Flying Bison Brewery, 840 Seneca St. Those who bring three unused bath towels or a set of bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth will receive five basket raffle tickets and a pint of beer for $2. Babcia’s pierogi also will be available.
Towel collections also will be taken after Mass next weekend at St. Andrew’s Church, 1525 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda; during Mass Dec. 9 and 10 at St. Christopher’s Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda; during Mass Dec. 16 and 17 at St. Stephen’s Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 16 in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Walden Galleria Mall in Cheektowaga.
