No-show in Amherst bad check case leads to bench warrant

A bench warrant was issued for an Amherst  woman after she failed to appear Monday in State Supreme Court on 10 charges of check fraud and one felony count of grand larceny in the third degree.

Christine Whitney also has disregarded court dates in Amherst  Town Court in connection with the check cases, which resulted in her indictment, prosecutor Amy Benedict said. She also reportedly has not made contact with the court-appointed attorney who was assigned her case.

An Amherst woman of the same name pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges in January 2013 for obtaining a Discover credit card in another person's name and using it to make ATM withdrawals and various purchases, all worth a total of about $8,000.
