The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation invite parents, coaches, community leaders and others interested in youth sports in Western New York to participate in one of three public conversations this week.
Both foundations have asked experts from the Aspen Institute Sports & Society Program to talk about the recently released "State of Play: Western New York" report, a comprehensive study about youth sports in the region.
The report underlines what many parents already know: The nature of organized youth sports has changed, and fewer kids these days are outside running, biking or playing pick-up games than children did a generation or two ago.
How can adults help get more kids moving?
The first conversation will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holiday Valley Lodge, 6557 Holiday Valley Road in Ellicottville.
A second conversation will run at the same time Wednesday at The Dale Association, 33 Ontario St., Lockport.
The third will run from noon to 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the WNED-TV Studios, 140 Lower Terrace.
Registration opens a half hour before start time; you also may register in advance at cfgb.org/stateofplaywny.
A light meal will be served at each event. There is no cost to participate.
