Jury selection has begun in Erie County Court for the trial of Jorge L. Suarez, accused of killing a kitchen worker inside the Anchor Bar a year and a half ago.
Suarez, 27, faces charges second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Freddie Dizon, 32, an employee, was gunned down May 20, 2016, in a back hallway during the dinner hour, when the restaurant at 1047 Main Street was full of customers. Another person was wounded.
Suarez is being tried separately from his co-defendant, Gregory Ramos, who is believed to have driven Suarez to and from the murder scene.
Ramos currently is in Sing Sing prison, serving four years for attacking the mother of his children the night of the shooting.
