Maloy repeats, Delsignore first in Turkey Trot

Former Canisius College runner Chad Maloy of Boston won his second straight Buffalo YMCA Turkey Trot on Thursday, finishing first among the 12,041 runners officially entered in the 8K race down Delaware Avenue.

Maloy’s time was 24 minutes, 25 seconds in the 122nd edition of the race. He won last year in 24:46.

Mike Deren of Louisville, Ky. was second in 24:44.9 while Elliott Martynkiewicz of East Aurora was third. Martynkiewicz was second in the Turkey Trot two years ago.

Former Sweet Home High School runner Jenny Delsignore was the women’s overall winner. Delsignore, a senior who runs at Duquesne University, was timed in 28:17. Last year’s women’s winner, Jennifer Boerner of Lancaster, was eighth this year.

Sarah Danner of Buffalo was second among the women runners in 28:37. Alexandra Cadicamo of New York City, the 2015 women’s winner, was third this time.

Maloy, 24, is a former New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association champion. Running for Griffith Institute of Springville, he was first in the 2010 NYSPHSAA Class B cross country race.

An Atlantic 10 all-conference academic selection, Delsignore finished seventh in the conference meet earlier this month and was 23rd in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional two weeks ago.

Among the top 10 finishers in the women’s race were twins Danielle and Gabrielle Orie, former Nardin Academy runners. Danielle, who ran for Penn as a freshman this year, finished sixth. Gabrielle, who ran for rival Cornell against her sister, was seventh.

Among the top 10 finishers, Jacob Krolick of Canyon, Texas, who was third last year, was fourth on Thursday. Frank Pfeil of Lockport, who was fourth last year, finished fifth this time.

The Turkey Trot claims to be the oldest continuously run race in the world.
