Passenger killed when car in Salamanca hits tree

A one-car crash in the Town of Salamanca late Saturday night resulted in the death of a passenger, who was ejected from the vehicle after it struck a tree.

Details were still sketchy Sunday morning, but the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office reported that the unidentified driver on Old Route 17 crossed the center line and went off the road. The force of the impact with the tree caused the passenger to be thrown out of the car.

Deputies, who were assisted by Seneca Nation marshals and Little Valley Emergency Medical Services, are still investigating. An appearance ticket was issued, though no charges were  specified in a news release.
