Registration opens for Amherst's Citizen Police Academy

Learn about “a day in the life of a police officer” during the Amherst Police Department's 2018 Citizen Police Academy.

The program begins Feb. 6 and continues for 14 consecutive weeks through May 8. Classes are from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays at police headquarters, 500 John James Audubon Parkway.

Topics include a tour of headquarters, recruitment and training of officers, crime prevention, accident investigation and criminal investigation.

Other topics include crime intelligence, firearms, crime scene processing, domestic violence, criminal law, and narcotics, gambling and vice. Students will be given the opportunity to go on a ride-along patrol with an officer.

The academy is open to adult town residents as well as individuals employed within the town. Applications are available at police headquarters, at the Police Department’s website or at the department's Facebook page.
