On the big screen: Tragically Hip, Garbo, Khan and more

"Long Time Running." Extra screenings of this emotional documentary detailing the final tour of the Tragically Hip have been added at the Screening Room Cinema Cafe at the Boulevard Mall. Screenings are at 10 p.m. Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 and 5:30 p.m. Nov. 22. In his review, Buffalo News critic Jeff Miers called it "a celebration of one-man's personal heroism." $10.

"Anna Karenina." The Old Chestnut Film Society continues its spotlight on Greta Garbo with the 1935 tragedy “Anna Karenina” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Philip Sheridan School, 3200 Elmwood Ave., Tonawanda. It’s part of the group’s fall series of movies focusing on Garbo and Clark Gable. Visit for the full schedule. $8.

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles." As part of its weekend family festival, the North Park Theatre is showing another movie with Buffalo ties. The comedy “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” starring Steve Martin and the late John Candy, had some scenes filmed along the 219 (“You’re going the wrong way”) and in South Dayton. It will be shown at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 18 and 19. Tix are $5.

"Stage Fright." The Buffalo-made "Stage Fright" will have a special viewing at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at Ilio DiPaolo's  Restaurant (3785 South Park Ave., Blasdell). Restaurant owner Dennis DiPaolo has a cameo in the movie which stars Jordan Ladd, Brody Hutzler and Kenmore native Alan Pietruszewski, who will be at the screening. "Bad Grandmas."  You’ve seen the bad moms. And the bad dads, who this time have help from the bad grandpas. Now welcome the “Bad Grandmas.” The  dark comedy about four grandmas who accidentally kill a con man has its area premiere with two showings at the Screening Room: 5 p.m. Nov. 20 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28. Pam Grier and Florence Henderson star. $6.

"Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan." Watch Khan (Ricardo Montalbán) act out his vengeance against Captain Kirk (William Shatner) in 35th anniversary showings of this "Star Trek" classic at the Screening Room. Times are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17, 22 and 25; and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 25. The Nov. 25 screening is followed by a "Star Trek" edition of trivia hosted by David Schwartz and Ben Bordonaro at 9:30 p.m. Individual movies are $6; the movie and trivia is $10.
