Colleges roundup: Canisius hockey dominates Bentley

The Canisius hockey team scored four straight goals to break a 1-1 tie and cruise to a 5-1 victory over Bentley at the HarborCenter Friday night.

Twelve different skaters picked up points to help the Griffs improve to 5-4-1 overall and 5-4 in Atlantic Hockey play. Nick Hutchison and Matt McLeod each had a goal and an assist.

Jimmy Mazza, Mike Sabatini and Grant Meyer scored the other three goals. Daniel Urbani made 19 saves for the win.

The teams wrap up the series Saturday at 4:35 p.m.

Bengals lose bowl game

The Buffalo State football team lost to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 35-20, in the ECAC Clayton Chapman Bowl played in Newark, Del.

The Midshipmen amassed all 419 of their yards on the ground as three players ran for more than 100 yards.

Bengals (6-5) QB Kyle Hoppy threw for 187 yards and ran for a 4-yard TD. Ricky Bailey had 114 of those yards on four catches. Austin Neal (nine carries, 80 yards) and Antoine Holloman each ran for a score. On defense, Bart Mazzara had 20 tackles.
