Burglar targets home of federal judge on waterfront

A thief targeted the home of Western District U.S. Court Judge William M. Skretny for a burglary Wednesday morning.

Skretny reported that an unknown person entered the rear door of his residence near the Erie Basin Marina, according to Buffalo police report. Stolen were: a judicial bag, passport, credit cards, an iPad, a 1966 silver and aquamarine Canisius College class ring, a Lauren Piccard watch valued at $400 and various other items.

Police said a detective later located some of the stolen items in LaSalle Park, including the judicial bag, but not the judicial notes that were inside.

U.S. Marshals also responded and other homes in the area were canvassed for surveillance video. Police suspect the culprit cut the screen to the screen door of the residence to unlock it and gain entry to the house.
