The Buffalo Sabres announced their festivities for their annual Hockey Fights Cancer night in conjunction with Saturday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Fans will have an opportunity to buy autographed Hockey Fights Cancer hats, donated by New Era Cap Company, for $20. Caps will be sold before the game and through the second intermission. Hockey Fights Cancer shirts will be available in the Sabres store.
The Sabres are hosting the event along with the Courage of Carly Fund at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
"Roswell Park and the Courage of Carly Fund are both proud and grateful to be the Sabres' chosen partner for this year's Hockey Fights Cancer program," Roswell Park president and CEO Dr. Candace S. Johnson said. "The awareness and funds raised through this collaboration allow us to give every child who comes through our doors a fighting chance, and bring us one step closer to a world where families no longer fear a cancer diagnosis."
Volunteers from Roswell Park will be selling raffle tickets to win Sabres experiences and autographed items. The team will also hold an online auction, starting at 9 p.m., Nov. 18 and closing at 9 p.m. Nov. 26 with all proceeds benefiting Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Among the auction items will be the purple jerseys worn by the Sabres during pregame warmups.
Flashes of Hope will be near the elevators on the street level of the arena to give cancer survivors an opportunity to have their photos taken professionally while volunteers will be stationed at tables throughout the concourse with "I'm fighting for" placards that will be held up during the second period.
Members of the Courage of Carly Fund will join other cancer patients from Roswell Park throughout the game in suites donated by the Sabres organization, Ryan O'Reilly, and Zach Bogosian.
