Former Tonawanda fire company treasurer charged with grand larceny

The former treasurer of a volunteer fire department in the Town of Tonawanda has been charged with stealing $19,000 from the organization, police said.

Timothy D. Kler, 35, stole the money from the River Road Volunteer Fire Company since January of this year, Town of Tonawanda police said in a news release.

Kler, who was charged with third-degree grand larceny, became the fire company's treasurer in January, according to police.

He turned himself in and was arraigned Thursday in Tonawanda Town Court. He was released on his own recognizance.
