A correction officer was arrested Wednesday after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate under her charge, according to New York State Police.
Anita Demarais, 58, of Cheektowaga was arrested by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and charged with two counts of official misconduct.
The investigation centered on an allegation that Demarais had an unlawful personal relationship with an inmate while employed as a correction officer at Wende Correctional Facility. Demarais is accused of using an alias to correspond with and send money to an inmate.
Demarais was issued an appearance ticket requiring her to return Monday to Town of Cheektowaga Court.
This case was a joint investigation by the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision’s Office of Special Investigations and the New York State Police.
