Registration for the Turkey Trot has closed after 14,000 runners signed up for the 8K Thanksgiving morning run down Delaware Avenue.
Geoffrey Falkner, YMCA Buffalo Niagara Communications Director, announced at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday that the race field was full.
The regional Y, which organizes the event, limits the field to 14,000 for safety reasons.
The nearly 5-mile race is the YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s largest fundraising event. Proceeds support the Y’s financial assistance program. More than $300,000 was raised last Thanksgiving.
The race will start at 9 p.m. Nov. 23 at Delaware and Tacoma avenues in North Buffalo. The Independent Health Family Branch YMCA – between Main Street and Wherle Drive at 150 Tech Drive, just east of the Erie Community College North Campus in Amherst – will host a Runners' expo and pre-race packet pickup from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Nov. 22.
