A new video highlighting Lake Ontario’s spectacular Pacific salmon fishery has been released by New York Sea Grant this week.
The video delves into the value of the fishery and also discusses how Cornell University researchers and NY Sea Grant personnel are using modern technology to monitor salmon movement and behavior. Through the use of pop-off satellite archival tags that were put into place with the help of charter captains in Rochester and Oswego, researchers will collect information on the salmon at various time intervals.
The pop-off tags are new technology designed for freshwater so they are being evaluated as well. The video can be found at https://youtu.be/pb4wJQc-O7A.
