Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western New York has opened a family lounge on the fifth floor of the newly opened John R. Oishei Children's Hospital.
The lounge provides an area of peaceful respite within the hospital where families and caregivers can spend quiet time while remaining near their children. Services include a kitchenette with a microwave, free wifi, a cell phone charging station and nearby laundry facilities.
The lounge will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours expected to be added.
The Ronald McDonald family lounge is the first one located in Buffalo. Another 196 Ronald McDonald family rooms are located in 23 countries and regions. The charity's Buffalo chapter, located in a historic home at 780 Ferry St. since 1983, serves more than 600 families each year, providing a home away from home for families seeking pediatric health care at local medical centers.
