Devon McFadden of St. Bonaventure University was named women's co-performer of the week in women's swimming and another Bonnie, Gerle Kerecsen, was named women's rookie of the week in swimming.
McFadden, a senior from SUNY Oswego, won three events for the Bonnies against Canisius College — the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.52), 200 individual medley (2:09.93) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay that won in 1:48.26. Gerle won the 100 butterfly (58.88), 100 breaststroke (1:06.64) and 50 freestyle (24.11) against Canisius. The freshman from Budapest, Hungary, also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay that won in 3:37.29 to seal the win for the Bonnies.
Ice Griffs McLaughlin honored"
Canisius forward Dylan McLaughlin was named Atlantic Hockey Conference Team Travel USA Player of the Week after he scored four goals and added an assist as the Golden Griffins split a two-game conference series against Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa., last weekend.
McLaughlin scored the first three goals for Canisius in a 7-3 victory over the Lakers on Saturday. He also assisted on the winning goal.
The junior from Lancaster leads Canisius with seven goals and 14 points in nine games. The Griffs are 4-4-1 overall and 4-4 in Atlantic Hockey. They will face Bentley in a two-game series on Friday at Saturday at HarborCenter this weekend.
Tomizziz makes All-AMCC first team in soccer
Senior defender Jenna Tomizzi (Sacred Heart) of D'Youville College was named to first team All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in soccer. She was part of a defense that recorded nine shutouts and scored two game-winning goals herself. Second team All-AMCC selections from D'Youville were goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga) and freshman forward Makenna Magee. Junior defender Magan Magee was third team selection. Megan, the younger of the two Dulniak sisters was named AMCC Newcomer of the Year.
