UB student group opposes Main Place tavern ahead of Council vote

The University at Buffalo’s Undergraduate Student Association has joined many neighbors and business owners in opposing the opening of a new tavern in University Heights.

Citing a history of underage drinking and disruptive house parties in the neighborhood, the student group passed a resolution urging the Common Council to deny an application from Anthony J. Sordetto to open Main Place at 3144 Main St. The group is concerned that Sordetto’s establishment will become a neighborhood nuisance.

Sordetto said he has received a “lot of support” from the community for his proposed restaurant that would serve alcohol and have live music but would not initially have a kitchen. It would sometimes host special events for people 18 and up.

Council members will vote on the proposal on Tuesday.
