Robber armed with gun and crowbar robs Subway in Newstead

A man armed with a gun and a crowbar robbed the Subway restaurant on Main Street in Newstead over the weekend, the Erie County Sheriff's Office reported.

The man walked into the Subway at 13015 Main St. at around 6 p.m. Saturday, displayed a black handgun and crowbar, then demanded money. He raided the register of an unspecified amount of cash before leaving the scene.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s or 50s, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with thin hair and eczema on his forehead. He was wearing a dirty, gray hooded sweatshirt, tan bandana and eyeglasses under a pair of sunglasses, authorities said.

The man is believed to have fled in a gold or tan pickup.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 858-2903.
