Two days after election win, Farrell joins Lockport Council

Two days after being elected a Lockport alderwoman for 2018-19, Amanda E. Farrell was appointed Thursday to serve as alderwoman at large for the rest of 2017.

She replaces Democratic Alderman at Large R. Joseph O'Shaughnessy, whose resignation reached Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey Wednesday. By law, a registered Democrat had to be appointed to the vacancy. Farrell is a Democrat who won the 2nd Ward as the Republican nominee.

McCaffrey said she had to move fast to be sure she has enough votes to pass the 2018 city budget next week.

Last week, O'Shaughnessy sold his house, which had long been on the market, and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He said he plans to sell Lockport's Oak Run Golf Course, which he also owns, by Dec. 1.
