DUBENITZ, Ruth B. (Olsen)

DUBENITZ - Ruth B.
(nee Olsen)
Just five months and five days shy of her 100th birthday, passed peacefully in her sleep, early Friday morning, November 3, 2017, at Langdon Place of Exeter. She was the beloved wife of 43 years of the late Michael G. Dubenitz, who died in 1984. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, April 8, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Adolf and Pauline (Halversen) Olsen. Her family moved to Buffalo, New York when Ruth was only 5 years old, where she attended grammar school and graduated from high school. In the mid 1950's, she lived in New Jersey, returning to Buffalo, NY in 1960, where she remained until moving to Exeter, New Hampshire 12 years ago, to be with her daughter, Jan Cowan and her son-in-law, the late George W. Cowan. Throughout her lifetime she had been passionate about gardening. While living in New Jersey, she was instrumental in starting the new Shrewsbury Garden Club, and after returning to Buffalo, she became one of the first members of the Harris Hill Garden Club and had served as its President for many years. Ruth received her certification in Japanese Floral Arranging, and took great pride in entering her designs in local shows. Her artistry in floral arranging has always been a source of astounding beauty. She also took great pains in maintaining beautiful gardens at her own home. After moving to Exeter, NH, at the age of 89, Ruth was eager to join the Exeter Garden Club, sharing some of her own gardening secrets. She was an avid reader and regular attendant at the public library. Sunday's were set aside for reading the Boston Globe - in its entirety. She immensely enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother, sharing with them her life stories and savoring every moment spent with them. Her life was lived to the fullest, and along the way, she inspired not only her family, but everyone she met. Ruth leaves behind her two children, Janice P. Cowan of Exeter, NH and Gregory M. Dubenitz of Virginia; her grandchildren, Laurie Wile (Christopher), Philip Mayo (Karen), Kristen Patrice (Desmond), Joel Dubenitz (Stacey) and Patrick Dubenitz; her great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Connor and Travis Wile, Lauren and Danielle Patrice, Abigail and Cameron Mayo and Eli Dubenitz, along with several generations of nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends from near and far. In addition to her parents, her husband and her son-in-law, she was predeceased by her two brothers William and Roy Olsen, and her sister, Eileen Bowles. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11 A.M. at the Exeter Cemetery, 49 Linden Street, Exeter, NH.
