Tipoff: 1 p.m. Saturday.
Radio: 1520 AM/1230 AM/102.9 FM.
Last season's records: Canisius (18-16, 10-10 MAAC), Buffalo (17-15, 11-7 MAC).
Gameday: General admission tickets start at $15.
History: UB and Canisius, meeting for the 50th time in series history, are starting their seasons against one another for the first time since 2006. The Golden Griffins are 32-17 all-time against the Bulls.
Canisius beat UB in overtime last year, 94-87, at the Big 4 Classic in December at KeyBank Center. UB won a 98-96 overtime game over the Griffs at Alumni Arena in 2015.
Big-time Bulls: UB was selected to win the MAC East Division in the preseason polls for the second time in school history and the first since 2004-05. The Bulls claimed two of the five spots on the preseason All-MAC East Team with juniors CJ Massinburg and Nick Perkins. Perkins was named the conference's Sixth Man of the Year last season, and junior Dontay Caruthers was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Rebuilding: The Griffs return two starters from last year's team in senior Jermaine Crumpton (Niagara Falls), a preseason All-MAAC first teamer, and sophomore Malik Johnson. Sophomore Isaiah Reese is also expected to make a jump after a solid freshman campaign. Freshman guard Takal Molson, a Buffalo native who played at St. Mary's of Lancaster, is a candidate to crack the starting lineup.
Shorthanded: Canisius announced Friday that junior Jibreel Faulkner will be suspended for the first 16 games of the season due to an NCAA violation during his time at a previous institution. The Washington, D.C. native spent the 2015-16 academic year at San Jacinto Junior College in Pasadena, Texas, and played in six games for the Griffs last season, averaging 3.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. He'll be eligible to return on Jan. 7, when the Griffs visit Siena.
Next: The Griffs head to Colorado Springs to play Air Force Tuesday at 7 p.m. as part of the Men Against Breast Cancer Showcase. The Bulls host Jacksonville State Wednesday at 7 p.m.
