Where veterans can get free breakfast and other discounts

Several area businesses will offer freebies and discounts to active and veteran military personnel this weekend as a small token of appreciation for their service. Proof of service is required.

Participating businesses include:

  • Tops Markets will grant veterans and active-duty military an 11 percent discount on their entire bill Saturday. The discount will also apply to immediate family members in military households. There are some exclusions, including gasoline, gift cards and alcohol.
  • Delta Sonic will give free Super Kiss Car Washes to veterans and active-military on Saturday. Free oil changes and free Brick Oven pizzas will also be available at locations that regularly sell oil changes and pizza.
  • Caputi’s Sheridan Pub, 2351 Sheridan Drive in Town of Tonawanda, offers a full, free buffet from noon to 2 p.m on the second Thursday of every month for active duty military and veterans.  Accompanying civilians dine for $6.99. For more information, call 836-9758.
  • Polish Cadets, 927 Grant St., will serve a free Polish Dinner from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
  • Ru's Pierogi, 295 Niagara St., will offer a free pierogi entree from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Flavors include Cheddar Potato, Banana Pepper and Cheese, Chicken Wing, Goat Cheese, Potato Ricotta and Pulled Pork.
  • The Grapevine restaurant, 2545 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Amherst, will give military families and veterans a 10 percent discount for the entire month of November. The discount is not valid on Thanksgiving.
  • Wegmans will serve a complimentary hot breakfast in its cafes from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for active duty and veteran military Saturday. Coffee, juice and fresh fruit are included.
  • Ace Flag Co., 5444 Transit Road in Depew, will serve free coffee and donuts from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. It also has a 10 percent veteran discount year round.
  • Target will grant a 10 percent discount across the board to active duty military and veterans, as well as their spouses and dependent children now through Nov. 11. Customers must first register with the store online to verify their eligibility, then will receive a coupon by email. Most items qualify for the discount, but there are some exceptions, including certain toys and electronics.
  • Applebee's will offer veterans and active-duty military a free meal from a special menu Saturday. The menu includes seven entrees: the American Standard Burger, Butcher's Meat and Potatoes sirloin and garlic mashed potatoes, Three-Cheese Chicken Cavatappi, Chicken Tenders Platter, Fiesta Lime Chicken, Double Crunch Shrimp and Oriental Chicken Salad.
  • Great Clips will give veteran and active military free haircuts at its salons Saturday. If they would like a haircut at a later date instead, they will receive a free-haircut card that they can bring in later. Civilians can also take a free haircut card to give to a veteran. The cards expire Dec. 31.
  • Starbucks will treat veterans and active duty military to a free tall coffee.
  • Denny's will offer active and veteran military personnel a free Build Your Own Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon Friday.
  • Bob Evans will provide a free breakfast to active and veteran military from a special, six-item breakfast menu.
