Gameday: Tickets start at $16 for a doubleheader. The women's teams play at 5:30 p.m.
History: The Niagara-St. Bonaventure series dates back to the 1920-21 season. The Bonnies lead the all-time series, 88-69, and have won the last six meetings. The Purple Eagles won eight straight before that and are 4-1 in their last five trips to the Reilly Center.
Under head coach Mark Schmidt, the Bonnies are 10-0 in home openers. NU hasn't won a season-opening game since it beat Central Connecticut State in overtime, 102-93, in 2011-12.
Dynamic duo: After consecutive 20-win seasons, the Bonnies were picked second in the Atlantic-10 due to its dynamic backcourt duo of Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley. Both players were named to the A-10's Preseason All-Conference First Team, and Adams is on the preseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Award as the national player of the year. St. Bonaventure returns two other starters in Idris Taqqee and Josh Ayeni.
Soaring expectations: The Purple Eagles were picked fifth in the MAAC preseason poll, the highest since being tabbed fifth in the 2012-13 season. Niagara returns its top six scorers and entire starting five in Matt Scott, Kahlil Dukes, Chris Barton, Marvin Prochet and Dominic Robb.
Next: St. Bonaventure hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore next Wednesday, while Niagara visits Minnesota the same night. The Gophers are the No. 15 team in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll.
