K-9 Shield visits Cardinal O'Hara High School

Cardinal O'Hara High School's "Dress in Blue" raised $1,000 to honor Buffalo Police Department K-9 Officer Craig Lehner.

The fundraiser was the largest this private school of 280 students has ever had, said Jill Monaco, assistant principal.

Lehner's K-9 partner, Shield, and ATF special agent Gerry O'Sullivan (a 1982 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara) went to the school to give the students a demonstration and accept the check.

"A lot of my family are in law enforcement. It really hits the heartstrings when something like this happens," said Student Council President Cal Klis, a senior from Amherst.

"It was last minute, but all these people joined together," said Allyson Nemeth, a sophomore from Grand Island and co-president of the Good Samaritan Club.

"Everyone was wearing blue," said Good Samaritan co-president Alyssa Kolcz, a senior from North Tonawanda.
