More than 40 million Kidde fire extinguishers, some on the market for 40 years, have been recalled according to BoatUS. The recall affects both plastic-handle and push-button Pindicator including 134, ABC and BC-rated models manufactured between Jan. 1, 1973 and Aug. 15, 2017. Extinguishers are red, white or silver and sold in the U.S. and Canada through a wide range of retailers. The extinguishers can become clogged and can fail to activate in a fire emergency.
The BoatUS Foundation is encouraging all boat owners to check their vessels for the recalled extinguishers. If you have one of the recalled extinguishers, a free replacement push-button extinguisher is being sent out. Kidde may be contacted at 855-271-0773 during regular business hours or on the weekend from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or check the recall information at www.kidde.com under “Product Safety Recall.”
