Batavia man charged with breaking into a home, threatening residents with a knife

A Batavia man is held in Genesee County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail after he allegedly broke into the home of acquaintances in the village of Elba about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and threatened them with a knife, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Adam J. Gill, 29, of East Main Street, allegedly was disarmed and left the house without further incident. Deputies on patrol said they found him operating a vehicle a short time later and arrested him for driving while intoxicated. The residents of the house were unhurt, investigators said.

Gill was arraigned in Elba Town Court on two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of menacing. He is scheduled to answer the DWI charge Dec. 20 in Batavia City Court.
