CBS Sports did a state-by-state ranking of men's college basketball teams, and No. 1 is from Western New York.
St. Bonaventure tops writer Matt Norlander's list, citing the Bonnies' outstanding backcourt of Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley.
Bona's recognition included the Bonnies' brown-and-white logo filling the New York spot on the site's "United States of college basketball" map, which has to have the Olean school's rabid fans fired up, particularly when you consider the traditional national powers who Bona is ranked ahead of.
Syracuse is No. 3, while St. John's is No. 2 among our state's 22 Division I teams.
In last year's CBS Sports state-by-state ranking, Bonaventure was second to Syracuse.
Other local teams fared well, as the University at Buffalo is listed fifth, Niagara is ninth and Canisius is 17th.
Check out the complete CBS list here. It's a fun look at not only which 50 teams earned a No. 1 honor, but, as it ranks the entire lineup of teams from each state, it's educational for those who might not know their Stephen F. Austins from their Austin Peays.
Our Buffalo News college basketball preview will roll out this week and will appear in Thursday's print edition.
