Amateur skaters from Northeast, Canada expected at Amherst competition

Hundreds of amateur skaters from the northeast United States and Canada are expected to compete Nov. 18 and 19 during an event in Amherst.

The 30th annual Amherst Invitational and Basic Skating Skills Competition is described by the host, Amherst Skating Club, as "one of the premier annual events for amateur skaters."

Figure skating events will include solo pattern dance, test track free skating and jumps challenge. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third place in all categories.

Sanctioned by US Figure Skating and Skate Canada, the competition at Northtown Center, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, is from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 18 and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 19.

The public is invited to attend. Admission is free and reservations are not required.
