Michelle Barbaro was appointed parks crew chief for the Town of Lancaster Monday night but not without reservation as expressed by Lancaster Town Councilman Ronald Ruffino.
"I'm supporting Michelle as parks crew chief, but I wanted to discuss the strength and weaknesses of all candidates," Ruffino said.
Earlier during the work session, Supervisor Johanna Coleman said interviews were conducted with five applicants for the position recently vacated by Mark Lubera, who retired after 23 years with the town.
"They were good applicants," Coleman said. "We know [Barbaro] will do a good job for us."
If Monday's torrential storms were any test, it appeared as if Coleman is correct.
At 3 a.m. Monday, Barbaro was called in on overtime after the Lancaster Town Police Department communications tower was struck by lightning, said Daniel Amatura, town highway superintendent, who called it a baptism by fire.
