Motorist dies after pulling into path of a dump truck

DELEVAN – A Delevan woman died Tuesday morning when she drove into the path of Mack dump truck in the Cattaraugus County village, according to State Police in Machias.

Troopers responded to the two-vehicle collision at 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 16 and Stranburg Avenue.

The 2005 Mack dump truck driven by a 70-year-old man was traveling southbound on Highway 16 when the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Lisa L. Toland, 56, was turning left off of Stranburg to head northbound onto Highway 16, police said.

She did so in the path of the dump truck causing a T-bone collision. Toland died at the scene. The dump truck driver was taken to Erie County Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police continue investigating the crash, with assistance from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit.
