Elijah E. Davis, 21, of Buffalo, was sentenced Monday in State Supreme Court to time served and five years probation for assaulting a police officer.
Davis fought with Police Officer Jasmine Olmstead on Jan. 8 when she stopped to help him after seeing him lying in the street, bleeding, at Main and Barker. When Olmstead approached Davis, he jumped onto the hood of her car and then started punching her. Other officers subdued him.
Moments earlier, a military police officer on his way to work saw Davis sprawled in the intersection and asked if he needed help. Davis got up, screamed and reached into the military police officer's car. The officer shot him in the hand.
Davis later said he had smoked synthetic marijuana and took a drug similar to Ecstasy.
Davis served 10 months in jail. He must undergo counseling and perform 50 hours of community service.
