Mt. Aaron Village project wins Planning Board approval

Mt. Aaron Missionary Baptist Church finally got the needed go ahead -- to construct a 66-unit affordable-housing community on the East Side.

The Buffalo Planning Board Monday approved the church's proposal for its Community Hope Builders CDC Inc. affiliate to build the Mt. Aaron Village affordable-housing community, with four buildings at 695 Genesee St.

Plans by Stieglitz Snyder Architecture and Tredo Engineers call for a three-story senior apartment building with 50 one-bedroom apartments, plus 16 two- and three-bedroom townhomes for families, on 19 vacant parcels totaling 2.15 acres, bounded by Genesee, Gray and Adams streets.

Work is expected to begin in the second quarter of next year, if financing is in place. Construction will be financed with New York State Homes and Community Renewal Housing Trust Fund dollars and 9 percent low-income housing tax credits.
