There were two sets of "Road Closed" signs on South Stockton Cassadaga Road Monday morning to warn motorists about floodwaters on the roadway.
But Gerald Haley, 52, of Stockton, drove around them at about 7:30 a.m., proceeded south on the road and got stuck in the water, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.
Haley's vehicle was partially submerged when sheriff's deputies and Stockton Fire Department volunteers as well as a private citizen helped rescue him.
Haley refused medical treatment at the scene and was handed a ticket for failure to obey a traffic control device. He will have to appear in Stockton Town Court at a later date to answer to the traffic violation.
