Lockport man sentenced to 3 to 9 years for high-speed crash

A man whose speeding vehicle rear-ended another auto in Lockport on Dec. 3, seriously injuring four people, was sentenced Friday to three to nine years in state prison.

Alexis W. Cruz, 21, of Keck Road, Town of Lockport, had pleaded guilty before State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. to aggravated vehicular assault and driving under the influence of a combination of cocaine and marijuana.

The Niagara County District Attorney's Office said Cruz had been driving as fast as 99 mph after a road-rage incident with a motorcycle before crashing into the stopped car at a red light at Akron and Davison roads.

Cruz was extradited from his native Delaware after skipping a March 17 court date. He was subsequently indicted on 25 counts by a grand jury.
