Driver charged with felony DWI after collision at Evans intersection

A Lake View man who was involved in a two-car crash in Evans Friday was later accused of drunk driving.

Matthew Thomas, 32, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property and other traffic violations, Evans police reported.

Thomas was arrested shortly before 9 a.m. after police, along with firefighters from the Highland and North Evans fire companies, responded to a collision at Route 5 and South Creek Road. The driver of the other vehicle was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to police.

Police said Thomas' license is currently revoked because of prior alcohol-related arrests. He also faces charges in the Town of Hamburg related to Friday's crash.

Thomas was held for arraignment after being treated at Lake Shore Hospital.
