Following is a weekly listing of upcoming public events for those interested in health, fitness, nutrition and family support.

French Heritage Day. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday,  Old Fort Niagara, end of the Robert Moses Parkway, Youngstown. Demonstrations of French soldier life, musket and artillery firings, the fur trade, foodways, travel, music and folklore of New France. Regular admission applies. Hearth cooking workshop with Niagara County Historian Kate Emerson from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. will allow participants to use authentic 18th-century recipes to prepare dishes and desserts that are cooked over an open fire in the French Castle boulangerie. “Witnesses: Buffalo’s Holocaust-Era Stories”. Nine stories highlighted in a month-long exhibit to include a Kristallnacht commemoration event to screen the documentary film, “Complicit,” the untold story of why the Roosevelt Administration denied safe haven to Jewish Refugees, at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Bulger Communication Center, SUNY Buffalo State. A reception will be held after the screening, sponsored by Holocaust Resource Center, Buffalo State College Museum Studies Program and Hillel of Buffalo. The exhibition will be open through Nov. 30 in the front of Butler Library at Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave.

Great WNY Kidney Bean Kickoff. 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Atrium of Erie Community College City Campus, 121 Ellicott St. ECC culinary students will create recipes, besides chili, using kidney beans, with proceeds to benefit the Kidney Foundation of Western New York. Fort Niagara’s Role in World War I. 1 p.m. next Saturday, Old Fort Niagara, end of Robert Moses Parkway, Youngstown. Robert Emerson, executive director of the Old Fort Niagara Association, will lead a program in the Visitor Center theater. An accompanying exhibit will feature World War I uniforms, artifacts, letters and photos. Regular admission applies; all veterans and active service members are free. FITNESS

Zumba fundraiser. Dim the Lights Zumba Fitness Dance Party, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Immmanuel Lutheran Church, 107 Scott St., City of Tonawanda. $15. Also basket raffle at the church from 6 to 8 p.m., as well as from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 5. Funds go toward a new stove for the church, needed to cook for the community. BIKE, RUN, WALK

The Partners for a Livable Western New York Walk. 9:30 a.m. Saturday from St. Teresa’s Parish Center, 33 Mineral Springs Road. Those who gather at 8:30 a.m. will see a slide show of best practices for streetscape improvements, then two groups will fan out in different directions along Seneca Street, return to the church, and talk about what they've seen. Refreshments will be available before and after the walk, which also will be hosted by the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo, with support from WNY Refresh.

Mighty Fitz 5K Run. 2 p.m. Saturday, Brickyard Pub & BBQ, 432 Center St., Lewiston. The race will take runners through the Village of Lewiston, Artpark State Park and along the Niagara River waterfront. There will be a post race celebration and awards ceremony at the Brickyard following the race with food, Great Lakes Brewery Edmund Fitzgerald beer specials, special edition “Mighty Fitz” commemorative T-shirts, and live music by Zak Ward.
