John Murphy Show: Greg Cosell on Bills loss: 'the game slowly got away from them'

NFL Films' Greg Cosell joined John Murphy and Donald Jones on WGR-550 AM on Friday.

Cosell gave his take on the Bills' loss, where he saw struggles on film, the effectiveness of "12" personnel against the Bills' defense, and looking around the league — focusing on the injury to Texans QB Deshaun Watson — and the match up of Travis Kelce versus Byron Jones in the Chiefs-Cowboys game.

Bills insider Chris Brown opened the show with a postmortem on the game, the Jerry Hughes penalty and why it's so troubling, the poise of Tyrod Taylor during the game, the implosion of the offensive and defensive lines, and how the Bills lick their wounds in the next 10 days.

Bills coach Sean McDermott's press conference was streamed live. He discussed the play of the team, the Jerry Hughes penalty, where the team is at the halfway point and what needs to change to get the Bills over the hump.

Quotable

Chris Brown: "I think big takeaway was line on both sides of the ball. They lost in spectacular fashion."

Chris Brown on Taylor's play: "Tyrod played a whale of a game ... to complete 72 percent of your passes that duress."

Sean McDermott: "You have to be honest about yourself ... a consistent approach is the best approach."

Sean McDermott on coaches self-evaluating: "You just kick yourself — there's a lot you can do better."

Sean McDermott on Tyrod Taylor's play: "I think he continues to develop as a quarterback ... threw the ball fairly accurate with presence in his face."

Sean McDermott: "It's not always going to go your way, but it's how you respond to adversity, that determines how far you go."

Sean McDermott on Richie Incognito's complaint of Thursday night play: "They had the same time to prepare for things, same as us."

Greg Cosell: "It was kind of one of those games where I didn't feel like it was a glaring kind of thing, it just seemed the game slowly got away from them."

Greg Cosell: "Last night was a game where they did not play well — I don't think each week we talk about them getting gashed by the run ... "

Greg Cosell: "The Saints have evolved into a team that runs the ball more this year than in years past ... [Bills] are not a defense with a ton of girth of front, especially at defensive tackle."

Greg Cosell: "It seemed like Taylor was playing out of a hole for most of the first half ... you certainly don't want to be in a situation where your quarterback is under duress as much as he was last night."
