Canisius men's soccer ties, Niagara loses in regular season finales

Canisius men's soccer needed a win against visiting Manhattan on Wednesday and some help around the MAAC for an outside shot at its first regular season conference title since 1996, but the Golden Griffins came away with 1-1 draw against the Jaspers. With the tie, the Griffins host Iona on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the MAAC Tournament.

Filippo Tamburini, a freshman from Italy, scored in the 22nd minute to give Canisius a 1-0 lead. Manhattan didn't tie it up until the 88th minute, and the teams played two overtime periods without a goal.

Elsewhere in the MAAC, Niagara lost at Monmouth, 4-0, in its final game of the season. The Purple Eagles finished 2-14-2 overall and 1-8-1 in the MAAC.

Medaille sophomore Lachlan Wilkinson scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Franciscan in the AMCC semifinals to send the Mavericks to Saturday's championship game (its 12th appearance in 13 years) at No. 1 Penn St. Behrend.
