2 charged in Elma gas station burglary

Erie County Sheriff's investigators have charged two men with burglarizing a gas station in Elma, authorities said Tuesday.

James Trala, 30, of Depew, and Philip Muzzy, 34, of Lackawanna, were pulled over by detectives on Saturday, the Sheriff's Office said.

Inside the pair's vehicle, detectives found lottery tickets, cash and cash donations for a breast cancer charity organization, officials said.

Authorities did not say precisely where or when the burglary occurred, but said detectives were investigating a string of smash-and-grab burglaries.

Trala was charged with burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree grand larceny, the Sheriff's Office said. He was held in the Erie County Holding Center without bail on a parole violation and a family court warrant.

Muzzy was charged with burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree grand larceny, authorities said. He was held in the holding center on $5,000 bail.
