Dunkirk man hospitalized after Route 5 crash

A driver was hospitalized Monday morning after his vehicle veered off Route 5 and sheared a utility pole in Dunkirk, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office said.

Michael G. Korytko, 33, of Dunkirk, was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital following the crash, which happened at about 11:05 a.m. Korytko was driving east when he drove off the road, hit a curb and sheared the pole, the Sheriff's Office said.

The vehicle overturned and traveled through an open field, striking an unoccupied, parked vehicle in the field, officials said.

He was issued a traffic ticket for crossing hazardous markings. Authorities did not disclose the seriousness of his injuries.
